Discover the wonders of the Earth and the stars on a 2.5-mile journey along Green Springs Mountain Loop\, set during the new moon for optimal stargazing. Learn about nocturnal wildlife\, local ecology\, and the importance of dark skies. \nMeet at CVS in Ashland at 7:00 PM. The group will return around 11:00 PM. Please remember to bring a headlamp and sturdy shoes for the hike. \nThe Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument’s mission is to support the protection\, restoration and conservation of the Monument through service\, advocacy and education.

DESCRIPTION:Learn four foundational skills to help you recognize the birds you’re seeing and hearing in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.\n\n\nDuring the Friday evening lecture\, you’ll learn four foundational skills to help you recognize the birds you’re seeing and hearing in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument — and wherever you go: \n\nHow to choose and use binoculars so they actually work\nHow to see more birds by blending into the landscape through your movement\, attention\, and presence\nThe five essential things to look for when identifying birds\nHow to use field guides in a way that is effective and enjoyable\n\nOn Saturday\, we’ll head outside and put these skills into practice together. \nPlease bring your binoculars and field guides on both days. \nIf you don’t have binoculars\, you may borrow a pair provided by the Rogue Valley Aududon Society. \nThis class is designed for beginners and anyone who wants to feel more connected to the birds and landscape around them. \nCollette Streight is the founder of Awakening Wild and has been teaching deep nature connection since 2013. She guides women in creating a grounded\, nourishing relationship with the natural world through simple daily practices\, small group programs\, workshops\, and mentoring. Her work weaves together practical skills\, ancestral teachings\, and deep presence \nThe Friday Hike and Learn sessions will take place in the Ashland Food Co-op Community Classroom at 300 N. Pioneer in Ashland from 6:00 to 7:30pm. The classroom is one block toward downtown from the grocery store on N 1st Street. This Eventbrite is for the Friday Talk ONLY\, register for Saturday hike HERE. Attendance to Friday Night Talks is limited to 40 people. \nFriends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is a nonprofit organization and our mission is to support the protection\, restoration and conservation of the monument through service\, advocacy and education. Our Hike and Learn programs are designed to introduce the public to different topics and locations within the Monument.
