Hike and Learn: Saturday Outing, Project MARIPOSA

Join BLM specialists and Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument for a Saturday outing to document rare and invasive plants across the monument using iNaturalist as part of Project MARIPOSA (Monument Assessment of Rare and Invasive Plant Occupancy in Sensitive Areas).
We will meet at 9:00 AM at the CVS in Ashland and make our way into the monument from there. Carpooling is optional. We will return by 3:00 PM.
This Eventbrite is for the Saturday outing only. Register for the Friday night talk here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1990833792465?aff=oddtdtcreator.
Specialists from BLM will lead participants through the monument, teaching you to identify and photograph rare native plants and invasive species using iNaturalist. Your observations will be reviewed by scientists and incorporated into an official database used to guide plant conservation and invasive species management throughout Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. Biological illustrator and watercolor artist Lisa Spangler, CSNM’s 2026 Artist-in-Residence, will also join us in the field, documenting the monument’s biodiversity in paint and ink. Learn more about Project MARIPOSA at www.inaturalist.org/projects/csnm-project-mariposa. See Lisa’s work at lisaspangler.com.
What to bring: water, lunch, sun protection, sturdy footwear, and layers. A smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed is helpful but not required.
Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to support the protection, restoration, and conservation of the monument through service, advocacy, and education. Our Hike and Learn programs are designed to introduce the public to different topics and locations within the monument, co-created with local scientists, historians, artists, students, and more.
