PROTECTING THE MONUMENT

Protecting Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is about ensuring strong protections through policy and public voice.

FCSNM provides our community with opportunities to learn about pressing issues that affect the Monument, from federal land management decisions to local conservation policies. By staying informed and speaking up together, we can influence decisions that safeguard the Monument’s lands, waters, and wildlife.

Friends Grassroots Network

As a member of the Conservation Lands Foundation’s national Grassroots Network, FCSNM joins with organizations across the country to advocate for National Conservation Lands. This network amplifies our local voice, connecting our efforts with a larger movement to ensure that public lands remain protected for future generations.

Advocacy History

Since our founding, Friends has stood alongside local advocates, partners, and scientists to defend and expand the Monument. We supported the successful 2017 Monument expansion campaign, building on our history of involvement dating back to the Monument’s original designation in 2000. Shortly after, during the first Trump Administration, we worked with those same partners to defend the Monument against efforts to shrink its boundaries, including during Secretary Zinke’s visit. Ultimately, the Monument was not shrunk.

FCSNM is not a litigious organization. Instead, we collaborate with and support legal partners such as Soda Mountain Wilderness Council, KS Wild, Oregon Wild, Earthjustice, Cascadia Wildlands, and others, whose litigation work has been essential in defending the Monument. We deeply appreciate their efforts and stand with them in protecting these lands.
