Hike and Learn Friday Talk: Project MARIPOSA and Artist-in-Residence

BLM and Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument are calling all citizen scientists to join Project MARIPOSA (Monument Assessment of Rare and Invasive Plant Occupancy in Sensitive Areas).
Join specialists from BLM as they introduce Project MARIPOSA and teach you how to use iNaturalist to document rare native plants and invasive species across the monument. Your contributions will be reviewed by scientists and included in an official database used to protect rare plants and manage invasive species throughout Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. Learn more at www.inaturalist.org/projects/csnm-project-mariposa.
The evening will also feature a presentation and demonstration by biological illustrator and watercolor artist Lisa Spangler, CSNM’s 2026 Artist-in-Residence. Lisa uses art in conservation to document and preserve native plant communities, and will spend much of June recording the monument’s remarkable biodiversity in paint and ink. See Lisa’s work at lisaspangler.com.
The Friday Hike and Learn sessions take place in the Ashland Food Co-op Community Classroom at 300 N. Pioneer in Ashland from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The classroom is one block toward downtown from the grocery store on N 1st Street. This Eventbrite is for the Friday talk only.
